Quick update!
while i was waiting for my GF to get ready this morning i visited one of my favorite blogs this morning. Please, Please, Please, if you love, like or enjoy CG ready the current blog entry by master zap! for some people it will confirm what they already know others they will learn something new! my favorite! anyway here is a link MasterZAP

Secondly interesting to note if you read a couple post down about there is something really interesting in the "Blur goes mental post." here is an excerpt

"What may interest people is that this is largely lit by physical sun&sky, and is using final gathering for indirect light. Clearly, the era of "fake everything" and "you can't use GI in production" is coming to a much needed close." -masterZap

Finally the Stash is realized

Hey guys it's been awile again since my last post. A lot has happened and has been going on since my last post! I'm now freelancing creating some websites and design. I have a paid internship at a small studio working on an independent film and am continuing to develop my projects further. The most exciting news though is that i finally have all my own equipment now to shoot High Res HDRI. The Forest HDRI is the first one that i have shot with my new rig and to celebrate i will be offering download details through mymentalray.

here is a photo i took with my cellphone of my new setup!

so whats the deal with the STASH? well basically i want to continue to offer free stuff to a smaller group of people. I will post details on how to get a login soon, some have already been sent out. I will be carefully handing out these logins and ask that if you have recived one that the files are there for you and your use. Abuse will lead me to remove this feature. Finally i am forseeing a V2 of the site, this one has seen better times and the code is getting a lil crappy. Plus i think i have grown as a designer and would like a new site that i feels reflects that!

Lastly I am working on getting my new reel availible on fdafx.com and am in the process of formulating Onedigitalartist.com

Lastly Al Torres (aldrichtorres.com) told me that Dave Hale (davehale.net) had added my site as a link on his. Thank you Dave and i will be adding you to mine soon, if i have missed you and you want to be on this site please let me know, through the contact forum or email me at brendan@crazy8studio.com

Systems Go for Linux (Ubuntu)
I can't believe I'm already making another post! I have been so lax the last month or so that it feels good to make another post again so soon.

By the title of this post you can assume that this post has something to do about linux and well it does! I know Linux is nothing new and i used it quite often at school but i always was a mac and pc user at home. Now recently (as of this weekend) i have now completed the trilogy at home. I am pretty excited about this (and as is every kid with a new toy) finding it hard to keep my hands off of it. I had to boot back into Linux just to make this post! Justifying it by saying i was staying true to my post tongue . I have to say that that Linux has a lot of really great stuff to offer and a lot more automation and usability then i thought a FREE OS would. I never had to install drivers for anything except my video card! To make things better as soon as i booted up the first time a dialog box pooped up saying updates where available! This is the kind of functionality that you receive from an OS you have to pay for. All and all I'm in love so far, if Adobe creates the next Creative suite for Linux as well i may never go back or use it sparingly.

some things to note though:
-Im not to crazy about my login not beeing a super user and that the only super user is root. This is easy to bypass in terminal but for inexperienced users or users who want to stick to the GUI this can prove irritating.
-To get just Nuke, Maya, and ATI crappy support for Nix to work the correct way i had to really delve back into my past Linux experience with terminal. Good for getting your feet wet again but irritating.
-If your going to install Linux i recommend Nvidia for a graphics card. From what i have read their Linux support is much much better.
-Finally there are a lot of distro's of Linux I choose Ubuntu because A:it's what we used at school and B: it seems to have a lot of good feedback and reviews!

here are some links that helped me get me going:

installing maya on linux - http://tldp.org/LDP/abs/html/aliases.html

---------------------------------------------------------------

so i think that is about it here is a screen shot of my new desktop! I will post some work soon created in my new Linux Enviroment! I plan on doing all of my Visual Effects work now in this environment (or as much as possible).
